Chen Wang Ting 陳王廷 – Part 19

Chen Wang Ting 陳王廷 even wrote a poem when he was older which went,

“Thinking of the past, wearing my armour and my weapons, fighting against the enemy, many times in danger. Heaven blessed me but now this is all no use. Now I am old and not so well, I keep myself busy and only keep Huang Ting Jing as company. In my leisure time I create my Kung Fu. At busy times I work in the fields and in my free time I teach my students, my son and grandchildren. Whether they become good or not, I do not mind…..”

“嘆當年,披堅執銳,掃盪群氛,幾次顛險。蒙恩賜,枉徒然。到如今,年老殘喘,只落得《黄庭》一卷随身伴。閑來時造拳,忙来時耕種。趁余閑,教下些弟子兒孫,成龍成虎任方便……”

So Huang Ting Jing 黄庭經was a very important book to Chen Wang Ting. He read it constantly when he was older and it helped him to improve his Kung Fu, which would eventually become Taijiquan. He taught students, his children and grandchildren, and he was no longer eager to fight against the Qing Government.  He was happy to just be a farmer, an ordinary person and concentrate on creating his Kung Fu.  Reading the Huang Ting Jing and teaching his children was all that he did and this helped him understand Dao, Kung Fu and Chinese medicine. His skill eventually became the Taijiquan that we practice today. I am sure he did not expect this.  So what is the Huang Ting Jing?
